Born 1944 in Borås, southwestern Sweden. Studied science and engineering at Chalmers University, Gothenburg. Worked in information technology developing interactive computer systems, first in Gothenburg, Sweden and from 1985 in Chicago, USA.
Retired in 2004 and enrolled as a volunteer at the Field Museum, later as scientific associate. Started building a database of liverworts and hornworts in 2005 which now is integrated into the ELPT database.

Born 1954 in Skellefteå, northern Sweden. Studied biology at Umeå University where I became interested in bryophytes. PhD in Plant Ecology at Umeå University in 1987 (thesis “The regulation of abundance and distribution patterns of bryophyte species on decaying logs in spruce forests”).
Associated professor, full professor and now professor emeritus from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway, since 1992. Started to compile a database of liverwort distributions around 1985 which developed under the years and is now integrated into the ELPT database.

Born in 1970 in New Zealand. Studied botany at the University of Auckland, where I became interested in bryophytes. PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Auckland in 2003, with a thesis on the biosystematics of the liverwort genus
Frullania. Joined the Field Museum in Chicago in 2001 and have served as Head of Botanical Collections since 2013. My research focuses on the global diversity, systematics, taxonomy, biogeography, and conservation of liverworts,
while advancing collections-based research, digitization, community science, and the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve access to biodiversity knowledge.
